Introduction to the North Coast Resiliency Initiative

Background:

Since August 2021, a group of staff from the CPUC, other state agencies, and relevant load serving entities have been meeting to discuss regional resiliency in the north coast area, specifically resiliency from transmission-level Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS). These meetings developed into the North Coast Resiliency Initiative (NCRI), an informal initiative facilitated by CPUC staff and overseen by CPUC Commissioner Genevieve Shiroma and other energy principals. The NCRI is a state initiative to help identify projects to mitigate wildfire risk and/or associated PSPS in Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Lake and Mendocino counties. The initiative brings together key agencies and stakeholders to develop a comprehensive PSPS mitigation plan, considering new energy resource development and transmission upgrades or hardening.

Purpose of the workshop:

The goal of the workshop is to present the NCRI to stakeholders and the broader public, so that they understand the initiative’s purpose and scope. This debut workshop will allow stakeholders and the public to understand the early progress of the NCRI, and to offer comments and feedback on the initiative while it is still ongoing. The workshop aims to clarify the status, learnings to date, and the next steps for the NCRI.
